Exlar, based in Chanhassen, MN, USA, was founded in 1986 to develop an alternative actuation method to hydraulic and pneumatic systems whose inherent flaws were now known.
Machine builders needed a product with better positioning performance and efficiency than classical systems. In 2004, Exlar refined the motor/actuator configuration to meet the industry demand, producing a fully integrated item with a motor around the spindle nut. Later came versions with onboard drivers and communication electronics as well. In December 2012, Exlar was acquired by the Curtiss-Wright Group. These actuators are present in diverse markets such as Automotive, Food & Beverage, Packaging, Oil & Gas, Simulation Platforms, and Aerospace.
