Linear actuators, or electric cylinders, are electromechanical devices that generate linear motion. They arise from the need to simplify installation and increase efficiency compared to pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Electric linear actuators are mainly divided into two types: mechanical and direct. The former can be an acme screw with a nut, a ball screw with a ball nut, or a satellite roller screw. The latter are called tubular actuators and use the same principle as linear motors, with the electric coil in the forcer and the magnets inside the rod.
